In 2020, there were 1,050 identified opioid overdose deaths in the state of Minnesota.

If you are a person who uses drugs or if you are around people who use drugs, please consider learning how to respond to an opioid overdose and carrying naloxone (intranasal brand name: Narcan). Naloxone is a medication designed to reverse an opioid overdose. Opioids slow down the activity of the central nervous system. This can cause slowed or stopped breathing which may lead to death. Naloxone displaces the opioids from the opioid receptors in the brain which allows the person who is experiencing an opioid overdose to begin breathing normally. IPTF has HIV services, syringe exchange, case management, and housing programs all rooted in indigenous ways of knowing and the values of inclusiveness and respect for diversity. IPTF is creating a vision of healing that will benefit all people and our mother earth.

STEVE’S LAW

Minnesota’s Good Samaritan law “Steve’s Law” prevents drug possession charges against those that seek medical assistance for an overdose in certain circumstances. This law makes saving lives the priority during a drug overdose, not criminal prosecutions of people who use drugs.

MENTAL HEALTH MINNESOTA

Mental Health Minnesota runs the state’s Warm Line which is a peer to peer support service available Monday through Saturday from 5pm to 10pm.
